All forms must be submitted to the Honors College no later than the end of the third week of classes for full-semester courses during fall and spring semesters and the beginning of the second week of classes for six-week and eight-week courses.
Completing this form does not automatically register you in the course. After your application has been approved by the Honors College, you must register for HON-H 398 by requesting permission from the Honors College. Please email Lisa Ruch for permission.
Enroll in HON-H 398 for honors credit
Complete this form only if you wish to earn honors credit for an experience that is NOT already for IU Indianapolis credit. Examples include, but are not limited to, an LHSI internship, supervised research, or a study abroad experience. The IU Indianapolis faculty member overseeing your work must assign the final grade for this course.
This form requires you to provide a 200–300 word description of the experience for which you are applying to earn honors credit. In addition to submitting your HON-H 398 application, the IU Indianapolis faculty member overseeing this experience will receive an email to approve that the information you have provided is correct. Both your form and the faculty approval are due by the above deadline.
If adding HON-H 398 results is exceeding the 18 credit hour limit for banded tuition, you will be required to pay for the additional credits.
If you are participating in a study abroad program in which you are registered for IU Indianapolis coursework, honors credit may be earned by completing a traditional honors contract for the course rather than enrolling in HON-H 398. However, if you would like to earn honors credit for a study abroad program in which you are registered in a course outside of IU Indianapolis, you may have the option to enroll in HON-H 398 and complete a project with Dr. Ian McIntosh, honors international advisor. Please contact Dr. McIntosh for more information about this option.
At the end of the semester, you will be required to submit a 500–800 word reflection paper about your honors work in this course. We will send you a link to the form that you will use to submit this reflection toward the end of the semester. This reflection will include a brief description of your experience followed by your personal feelings, insights, opinions, and observations regarding its significance and its impact on you and your future.
The form is a fully digital application and does not require you to bring in any paper materials. If you have any questions, please contact iuihc@iu.edu.
