Welcome to the fall semester! We’re looking forward to your return next Monday! We would like to take this opportunity to share some important information:
Honors Credit Requirements and Deadline
All Scholars are required to complete an Honors course or experience every semester. At some point, most of you will complete an Honors Contract in order to earn your Honors credit. This involves working with your faculty member to create a special project for a regular class.
You will find the online Honors Contract form on our website. We have moved to an all-online process as of this semester, so you will no longer submit the form and project description to our office in person. After you have submitted the required information online, your contract will be forwarded to your faculty member for approval. All forms for this semester are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, September 13. Early submissions are encouraged.
You may also earn Honors credit for a variety of other experiences, including independent study, research, capstone or senior design course, study abroad, student teaching, internships, and graduate courses. However, you must submit the appropriate form to the Honors College by the September 13 deadline. You will find all of the online forms on our website.
Students submitting the Honors Credit Application must complete a minimum of a reflection paper at the end of the experience in order to earn Honors credit (see website for details). Your faculty member has the option of requiring an additional project in order to earn Honors credit for the experience.
Honors College Open House
We will officially welcome everyone back to IUPUI and the Honors College on Friday, September 13, from 3-5 p.m. at the IUPUI Honors College Fall Open House. Stop by to meet other Honors Scholars, catch up with friends and make new ones, learn about Honors involvement opportunities, and say hello to your IUPUI Honors College faculty and staff. We’ll be in the lobby area of the lower level of University Library just outside the Honors College. Of course, we will serve refreshments, so come hungry!
Honors College Facilities
We hope that you’ll spend time in the Honors College space! Please note that our office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am-5 pm. However, the study/kitchen area is open the same hours as University Library, so you’re welcome to use the space as long as the Library is open. Please help us maintain our space by keeping the kitchen area clean; dispose of all food and food containers properly, and be sure not to leave any food or crumbs in the sink. There are extra supplies under the sink if you need them. Feel free to move the furniture around if you need to, but please return it to its original place when you leave.
You may access the Honors College student area using your Crimson Card. If you experience any problems using your card to gain access, please notify our front office staff.
Costa Rica Information Session
Are you interested in traveling to Costa Rica with the Honors College for a service-learning study abroad experience over spring break 2019? Would you like to learn more about it? If so, plan to attend one of our Costa Rica Info Sessions on Thursday, September 5, from 12-1 p.m. or 4:30-5:30 p.m. in the Honors College. You’ll find details about the program at go.iu.edu/1H1j. You will earn Honors credit for the experience, and it’s a great way to use your $2,500 study abroad stipend!
The Student Support Services program in Taylor Hall is hiring tutors for their students for the following subjects:

Hours are flexible, and the current pay is $10.50 per hour. Tutors must be at least a sophomore and have completed the course for which you will be tutoring. If you are interested in becoming a tutor for any of these courses, please contact Erica George (erdgeorge@iupui.edu) or Eric Williams (ericwill@iupui.edu) in the Student Support Services office.
