With six Phi Eta Sigma (PES) national scholarship recipients, IUPUI’s chapter had the most winners out of any other chapter in the country. The 2020 PES Founders Fund Scholarships were sent out to 95 members across the country totaling $288,000, and out of this, IUPUI members received $24,000. With these outstanding accomplishments, each winner shared their story on how these scholarships will support them and how the Honors College and the PES chapter has helped them.

Graduate student, biomedical engineering
$7,000 PES Graduate Scholarship recipient
Over the past four years, the Honors College and ALD/PES have given me a community to lean on from day one. I have found friends, mentors, classmates, mentees, and so much more. My undergraduate experience would not have been the same without these people and the experiences that I gained from my time in the Honors College and ALD/PES. I've come to know the staff in the Honors College very well after conferences, a study abroad trip, and just spending a lot of time in the Honors College. I've watched my ALD/PES friends and mentors graduate and go on to be successful in their careers while watching new officers come in and make the positions their own to lead this organization to new places. I am very excited to have another year on campus as a graduate student to continue my journey in the Honors College and ALD/PES.

Junior, triple major in biology, neuroscience, and psychology
$5,000 PES Distinguished Member scholarship recipient
This scholarship will assist me in obtaining my education in many ways. As I hope to attend medical school, my goal is to graduate from IUPUI with as little student debt as possible. This scholarship will help me meet that goal by offsetting various expenses this year, such as housing and medical school application fees. In doing so, I will be able to remain more focused on my education rather than the financial stresses that obtaining an education can bring.
Kaitlyn Powell
Senior, social work major
$5,000 PES Distinguished Member scholarship recipient
The Distinguished Member scholarship will enable me to focus more on my academics and campus involvement, without the added stress over student loans and working extra hours. This scholarship gives me the extra support I need in my final year to focus more on my senior practicum and less on working extra hours to pay for school. I’m hoping to have more time to study and focus on academics!
Sarah Harris
Senior, media arts and science major
$5,000 PES Distinguished Member scholarship recipient
The Honors College and ALD/PES have helped me in many ways during my college journey at IUPUI. From scholarship, student engagement, to somewhere I can simply study and make friendships, these groups have helped shape my college career. I don't think it would have been the same if I wasn't a part of these organizations.
Hannah Christy
Senior, communication studies major
$1,000 Founders Scholarship Fund recipient
ALD/PES has given me opportunities that would never have been presented to me if I had not joined. Getting the opportunity to apply for scholarships, attend a leadership conference in Green Bay, and making new friends are just a few ways I’ve been supported by ALD/PES.
Kylie Dennis
Graduate student, neuroscience
$1,000 Founders Fund Scholarship recipient
Being a part of the Honors College at IUPUI was the best decision I ever made! They went above and beyond to make sure I was supported with all of the resources I needed academically, professionally, and socially. ALD/PES was one of those opportunities that allowed me to be around like-minded students that supported each other and had a passion for making a difference on and off our campus.
