Mary chose to attend IU Indianapolis because she loved the campus environment and the close-knit community that’s apparent throughout the Honors College. She also decided to come to IU Indianapolis because of the accredited forensics program. To Mary, being a Bepko Scholar means “being a beacon of help, kindness, and positivity.” The title “Bepko Scholar” is so much more than a title to Mary, it carries momentous responsibility and shapes the way she plans to live her life. Mary is very passionate about poverty. Ever since she was a young child, she always tried to help out in any way she could with this problem. In high school, Mary planned, organized, and helped with a Thanksgiving canned food drive that resulted in over 2,000 items being donated to local food pantries. She was also a part of “For the Kids Committee” which raised over $10,000 for children in pediatric hospitals through various events throughout the school year. Mary would like to thank her family, past teachers, and God for “always believing in me and keeping me motivated throughout everything.”
