Kaylie chose to attend IU Indianapolis because she loves the campus, city, and all the people she has met here. She also chose it because of its medical background and opportunities for research and service-based learning. She is excited to be in the Bepko Scholars Program because it allows her to work with many amazing people, learn more about herself, and have opportunities to help others through service and innovative research. In college, she wants to organize events for her peers, younger students, and seniors in Indianapolis to spread awareness for healthy living. Her most meaningful service accomplishment was earning a Champions Together banner for working as a coach at her high school and church sports camp. She worked with her staff and students at her high school to organize a unified basketball game that raised funds and awareness for students with disabilities and allowed them to participate in sports. As a coach at Epic Sports Camp, she spent one week every summer teaching children about basketball, life, and Christianity. These experiences working as a coach taught her how to be a great leader for her community. She believes that the best kind of leader not only helps people with their skills, but also leads by example to encourage people to treat others with kindness and respect. After college, she plans to attend graduate school to become a doctor of physical therapy or medical school to become a sports medicine physician. Outside of her studies, she loves going to the beach, being around family, and working out.
