Amina chose IU Indianapolis because it aligns perfectly with her aspirations and goals. She enjoys that IU Indianapolis fosters a diverse community and provides the opportunity to engage with people from various backgrounds. Being a Bepko Scholar to Amina means being a leader in every setting. She says that a Bepko Scholar is “one who embodies leadership and service in their everyday life.” Through the Bepko Program, she aims to collaborate with like-minded individuals to address complex issues and drive positive change in the local community. At IU Indianapolis, Amina is dedicated to facilitating dialogue and building bridges between different cultural, ethnic, and social groups. In high school, Amina founded a Muslim Youth Group at a local community center. Within this role, she organized two outreach events which educated people about the complexities of a Muslim individuals’ identity. Additionally, she organized food drives to provide necessities for Afghan refugees stationed in Indiana. Amina also participated in her city’s Mayors Youth Academy where she got the chance to speak to local city representatives and provide ideas which could affect future generations in Fishers. After college, Amina intends on attending medical school.
