Rachel chose IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis) for its American Sign Language program. She is focused on educational reform, and, as a Bepko Scholar, looks forward to "being a positive light in people's lives by serving whenever possible." One of her biggest accomplishments was being a camp counselor for third to fifth grade kids. She gave kids the opportunity to open up and share their struggles. For Rachel, it was rewarding to see kids take a break from any worries they had at home. Rachel enjoys being outdoors, running, hiking, and backpacking. She also loves to read nonfiction and historical fiction. After college, she hopes to work in deaf ministry to give deaf people more options and make everyday life more accessible.
