Kate chose IUPUI (now IU Indianapolis) because of the Herron School of Art and Design. She looks forward to the equipment and facilities that the school offers in addition to the degree programs that are provided. Kate chose her career path because she is passionate about mental health and wants to offer people comfort and a safe space. As a Bepko Scholar, she hopes to be an approachable friendly face for anyone in the IU Indianapolis community to come to. She plans to reach out and make connections to the community through internships and volunteerism. In high school, her most meaningful accomplishment was working with young adults with special needs, adults looking for a creative outlet, and at-risk teenagers from her community in her local after-school arts program. Kate enjoyed serving meals and eating with the teens the most out of her experience with the program. Outside of school, she enjoys writing poetry, designing clothes, and reading books. Her current favorite author is Terry Pratchett.
