INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., January 20, 2023—Myra Kivett is an applied communication studies master’s student and independent songwriter, vocalist, and pianist. Myra says her experience at IUPUI has been filled with valuable experiences, both in and outside the classroom, and feels privileged to be part of the Bepko Fellow program. As a Bepko Scholar, Myra has had opportunities to volunteer in the Indianapolis community and opportunities to excel educationally. She has been involved with the Honors Peer Mentor Program, the Delta Zeta Sorority, Christian Student Fellowship, ALDPES, and TEDxIUPUI, and has volunteered at a variety of organizations. During her time as an undergraduate, Myra has worked as a compliance education intern, a media/audio engineering intern, and as a journalism and project management specialist. In addition, she is part of the Nashville Songwriters Association and hopes to pursue a full-time career as a songwriter after graduation. Aside from songwriting, she is also interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting or performance. Myra will graduate in 2024 and is primarily interested in researching communication in the music industry, specifically regarding artist to audience communication and learning how various marketing strategies improve two-way communication between an artist and their audience. She is also interested in researching what kind of promotional activities most improve this communication and interaction. She hopes to research this more in-depth, specifically with digital platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook. Myra looks forward to the experiences and opportunities she’ll have as a Bepko Fellow and graduate student.
