INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., January 31, 2022—Kaylee’s experience at IUPUI allowed her to explore a variety of interests, including research, leadership, and service. These experiences prepared her for medical school, but also uncovered her passions for service, fundraising, and event planning. To Kaylee, being a Bepko Fellow is a reminder of the continuous support of the Honors College and the value of being involved in service. During her time as a Bepko Scholar, Kaylee was involved in research through Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine, Eskenazi Hospital, and Methodist Hospital. She was also on the executive board of Jagathon, IUPUI’s dance marathon that fundraises for Riley Children’s Hospital, where she raised $14,000 and planned campuswide events to raise awareness and funds. Kaylee also served as the service coordinator for Academics for Civic Engagement (ACE), an Honors College service organization. For her extensive involvement and commitment to service, Kaylee was selected as a Top 10 student at IUPUI during both her junior and senior years of undergrad. Kaylee’s career goal is to become a physician-scientist and pursue research while maintaining strong clinical skills. She is currently researching genetic variants that cause Alzheimer’s disease in human-induced pluripotent stem cells. Her career motivation is strongly inspired by her experience with chronic illness and advocating for people with disabilities, which led her to establish the Disability Advocacy in Medicine Student Interest Group at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
