All Honors College students wishing to use their one-time $2,500 Honors College study abroad stipend toward an approved study abroad program must complete the Honors College study abroad stipend application. The application form is due two weeks before the term in which your program will be occurring.
Before you are eligible for the study abroad stipend:
If you were admitted as a first-year student on scholarship, you must:
complete an honors course/experience in the fall semester, and
be enrolled in HON-H 200 and one other honors course/experience in the spring semester.
If you were admitted through your school honors program, you must:
complete HON-H 200 and one other honors course/experience for at least three credits in the fall semester, and
be enrolled in at least one honors course/experience in the spring semester.
If you do not satisfy these requirements at the time of your application submission, your application will be denied.
Complete and submit the study abroad stipend application two weeks before the term in which your program will be occurring by clicking the "Begin application" button.
Within this form, you will need to provide documentation that you are participating in study abroad. Screenshot or save your acceptance form/letter from the study abroad program in which you are participating. You will need to upload this file on the form.
You will receive a confirmation email from the Honors College when your stipend is approved.
Once approved, your study abroad stipend will be applied to your IU Indianapolis Bursar account. If you have a balance on your Bursar account, your study abroad stipend will first cover the deficit on your account before being reimbursed to you.
If you have not done so already, we highly recommend that all scholars sign up for direct deposit. Direct deposit allows quicker access to the funds reimbursed to you via your Bursar account. If you do not opt for direct deposit, you will receive a mailed check to your address on file with the university. Students who signed up for direct deposit should expect a refund 3-5 days after the scheduled disbursement date. You can find more detailed information about how the Bursar processes refunds and how long you need to wait before receiving your refund on their website.
The form is a fully digital application and does not require you to bring in any paper materials. If you have any questions, please contactiuihc@iu.edu.
