Sophia chose IU Indianapolis because of its urban environment, close proximity to multiple hospitals, and wide range of research opportunities. To Sophia, being a Bepko Scholar means being surrounded by individuals who share a commitment to serving others and improving the community.
One social issue she is most passionate about is poverty. Throughout high school, Sophia volunteered with several local organizations, with her most memorable experience being when she prepared and delivered dinners to a women’s shelter. Sharing meals and forming meaningful connections with the residents deepened her compassion for those who are suffering. As a Bepko Scholar, she hopes to make a difference at IU Indianapolis and in the surrounding community by serving individuals facing poverty or health challenges through volunteer work.
After college, Sophia plans to attend medical school and pursue a career as a pediatrician. In her free time, she enjoys running, going to the lake, and spending time with friends and family.
