Sophia chose IU Indianapolis because the campus stood out to her, along with the research opportunities available to students. To her, being a Bepko Scholar means showing compassion to others, helping the community, and doing the right thing even when no one is watching.
One social issue she is most passionate about is educational inequality. Sophia says, “I think people should be able to pursue the paths they want, unhindered by the opportunities they have access to.” In high school, she co-founded a tutoring program at her local YMCA, which provided students with an additional resource to strengthen their academic skills. She tailored each tutoring session to the individual student, helping them gain both confidence and understanding.
At IU Indianapolis, Sophia hopes to contribute to a culture of kindness and make a positive impact on both the campus and the surrounding community.
