Mariana chose IU Indianapolis because of its location and the opportunities it offers her to excel in her field of study. To her, being a Bepko Scholar means receiving a quality education that can serve as a bridge to graduate school.
A social issue Mariana is passionate about is immigration, particularly the challenges individuals and families face in navigating complex policies that can affect access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities. In high school, she participated in an Eagle Scout project where she worked with a nonprofit organization called Let Us Learn to renovate community gardens and promote food accessibility.
As a Bepko Scholar at IU Indianapolis, Mariana hopes to become deeply involved in volunteer programs and help create a welcoming, supportive environment for others. In her free time, Mariana enjoys playing tennis, going to the gym, getting coffee, and watching The Simpsons.
